Another consideration is the theft deterrent factor. While a large, visible lock may not be the look you're going for, it also doesn’t look appealing to a burglar. If a thief approaches a window with a visible security measure in place, they are less likely to try to get in. Speed is of the essence for burglars so anything that slows them down gives you a higher level of security. They also won't want the attention that would come from breaking a window.
